I think I get it…

This is going to form a regular ‘feature’ (if you could call it that - after all, this is just the blog of some random geek in the UK) where I highlight a site that I track with my Bloglines account. Like most people, I use an RSS aggregator to keep up to date with the websites that I visit regularly. There are a lot of great people and sites out there that inspire me - both in terms of design and life in general - so I figured I’d share them with you. So here goes…

#1 The Passions of the Chris - Personal Blog of Chris Telford

I met Chris whilst studying Architecture at Sheffield University, and he later came to work for (with?) me when I set up my first architectural visualisation/graphic design/whatever-work-we-could-get-our-hands-on business.

Chris is a top design talent and can do things with Photoshop that even Adobe probably aren’t aware of. We parted company, amongst other reasons, so that Chris could spend a season snowboarding in Canada.

I’ll admit that I’ve completely lost touch with Chris since he went swanning off to Canada, and although he’s on my Friends list on Facebook, I’ve yet to get properly reacquainted. Last I heard, he’s heading on down to Leeds to get back into the design game (if you need a reference, Chris…).

Whilst I was working with him, he was heavily involved in some of the projects in my portfolio… this one, this one, and this one to name but a (very) few.

As well as his Grandmaster-like skills with Photoshop, apparently he’s been honing his video editing skills too:

Oh, and it’s his birthday today. Happy Birthday Chris!

Adam and Joe.

If you’ve not come across Adam and Joe before, try downloading their XFM radio show podcast (just do a search on the iTunes store under the Comedy podcasts section), or drop by Adam Buxton’s Blog and show some love. They can be a bit off the wall, but I think they’re brilliant!

Seriously??? Still??? I’m bored now - this is not why I set up my website.

UPDATE: Incidentally - I’ve changed the wording of the ‘About’ box on my homepage - not because somebody feels that I’ve ripped it off their own website, but because I now feel that it reads a lot better (and fills the box more evenly).

I’m going to be making a lot of gradual changes to my site over the coming weeks - not because of any pressure that people on the other side of the world feel that they can exert (which I am now completely ignoring), but because it was always part of my plan for the development of this site:

Ultimately, I decided to keep it dead simple - that way I would be able to launch the site with the minimum of fuss and effort and I would be able to ‘tart it up’ later on.

Last night I received a very nice email from a guy called Alessandro in response to this ‘issue’ surrounding the design of my website. I’ll not share what he said, but it did make me realise that perhaps I’ve understated the fact that I am fine with the situation - so let’s just leave it at that, shall we.

@Alessandro - thanks for your comments - they made me smile. It’s nice to know (if not a little weird) that people are actually taking an interest in my little corner of the Interweb. Incidentally, I appreciate that you probably didn’t want to hand out your ACTUAL email address, so I think I’ll remove that as a required field from my contact form.

@Kyle - I’ve added you to my contact list on MSN/Windows Live/’whatever the hell it’s called these days’, so hopefully when the time difference allows (you being in North America, and me in the UK) we can have a laugh about all this.

But back to my website. I’m slowly but surely uploading examples of my work (I didn’t realise how much stuff - that I’m proud of - I actually had), and sorting out the static content for the site (’About Me’ etc.), so watch this space.

Also, after years of building blogs and advising friends and clients on the use of social networking and Web2.0 apps, I’m finally getting around to using some of them myself - and genuinely too, not just for show. So expect an explosion of new content on my Flickr and del.icio.us accounts. This new found love of all things T’internet will be covered in an upcoming post (don’t even get me started on Facebook!).
